Finals : 05 Nov 2022, Saturday
An interschool competition on UAVs for societal benefits was conducted by AeSI, Chandigarh Branch. 24 teams from 13 schools of Chandigarh, Mohali & Panchkula participated in the competition. The finals of the event were conducted on 05 Nov, 2022, Saturday at DGRE, DRDO Auditorium, Sector 37, Chandigarh.
In first round 12 teams were shortlisted. Those 12 finalists presented their ideas to the judging panel, consisting of senior scientists from DRDO & CSIO, Professor from PEC & Air force officers. Many fellows & members of AeSI were also present.
Team of students of class 8th to 10th presented the concepts of UAVs / Drones that can be used for the benefit of the society at large. They presented its role, features, and project execution plan. Applications like fire-fighting, education in villages, evacuation during disaster management, agriculture, delivery management, crime prevention & control were presented. Futuristic ideas like nuclear powered drone, invisible drone were also presented.
Three teams, one each from Ashiana Public School, Sector-46, Chandigarh (Team FFE-01), Shivalik Public School, Phase-6, Mohali (Team Eagle Eye) and Smart Wonders School, Sec-71, Mohali (Team CCS-33) were declared winners and given Certificates & Rs. 5000 each as award money.

Sh. Pravendra Kumar, former Chairman of AeSI & former director of DRDO presented the awards. Event was organised by Sh. Deepak Lekhi, Dr. Harry Garg, Sh. Vikrant Satya, Sh. Ranjeet, Sh. Sudhir Dhamija and Sh. Yashpal Yadav under the guidance of Sh. Prateek Kishore the Chairman of AeSI.

Problem Statement
AeSI, Chandigarh Branch is organizing an inter-school competition on ‘Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for Societal Benefits’.
Problem Statement
Propose an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) / Drone that can be used for benefit of society at large. You’d need to conceptualize its Role, Features, Conceptual Drawings and prepare a Draft Project Execution Plan.
The competition is divided into 2 phases:
Phase 1: Shortlisting (Ends 20 Oct 2022, Thursday)
Each team has to submit a digest (approx. 500-600 words) summarizing its idea consisting of basic description, concept and conceptual drawings (if any) based on which 12 teams will be shortlisted for Phase 2
Phase 2: Finals (05 Nov 2022, Saturday)
Selected teams will present their concept to evaluation team in form of PPT presentation or/and models or any other mode which makes the presentation effective. 10-15 minute presentation will be followed by Q&A session, based on which Top 3 teams will be selected.
Who is eligible to Apply
A team comprising of students of class 8, 9 or 10 from schools in Chandigarh/ Panchkula/ Mohali can participate. A team may consist of 2-4 members of same or different classes. Maximum 5 teams are allowed per school. The entry is to be done through official email ID of the school.
Evaluation
- Each team has to submit a digest (approx. 500-600 words, check format here) summarizing its idea containing basic description, concept and conceptual drawings (if any) based on which 12 teams will be shortlisted for final event (Last Date of Submission: 20 Oct, 2022, Thursday)
- Selected teams will present their concept to evaluation team in form of PPT presentation and/or Models or any other presentation mode on final day. (Date of Evaluation: 5 Nov, 2022, Saturday). 3 best teams will be awarded.
- The indicative format for Digest and final presentation are available on website.
- The work should be the original work of the team.
- It should share information that is innovative and new or put a new spin on an old subject. The novelty can be in idea, methodology and approach, or in presentation and recommendations.
Awards
- Top 3 winning teams will be awarded cash prize of Rs. 5000 each and Certificates.
- Top 12 shortlisted teams will be awarded Finalists’ Certificates.
- All the participating teams will be given Certificate of Participation.
- All the participating teams will be invited to attend Final event on 5 Nov 2022 and interact with experts.
Judging Panel
The event will be judged & attended by Scientists, Defence officers and Technical Experts from Academia & Industry.

Maximum 5 teams will be allowed per school and entry should be through school’s official email ID. There is no entry fee for any stage.
